Current and past projects

Over the years I have worked on a wide range of tasks — my way of working has stayed essentially the same: understand difficult real-world problems, develop systems, and get them running in practice. That includes international plant engineering, export practice, and FFP2 respirator production, as well as the AI-assisted training programme ki-verordnung-schulung, hands-on work with n8n, Claude Code, and Codex, and digitalising quality management at an AZAV-accredited training provider.

Selected projects

  • In development, partially in production use Ongoing (active project)

    ki-verordnung-schulung

A comprehensive AI literacy training programme aligned with Article 4 of the EU AI Act: a version-controlled, Markdown-based content structure with modular content blocks, project-specific skills and agents, and its own build and review process.

Consistent quality management applies to both human and AI-assisted work steps. The practical build was carried out entirely with Codex. Creation and cross-checking are split across different coding agents or models; which systems take on these roles depends on the task. Final release is always a human decision.

On top of that comes the pedagogical design: concrete learning objectives, structured skill-building, exercises, and transfer tasks. It follows principles from vocational training and draws on my AEVO qualification and my hands-on experience as an instructor at Matrixcode Academy.

The slide deck is generated from Markdown through a Marp-based build process; project-specific skills support the work with Codex.

A dedicated, version-controlled rulebook sets quality requirements, review steps, and release steps for the project.

  • Completed — engagement ended 05/2025 March 2023 – May 2025

    Quality management digitalisation, Matrixcode Academy

At Matrixcode Academy, an AZAV-accredited IT training provider, I designed and introduced a digital course and participant management system as part of the AZAV accreditation.

Separately, I built a SharePoint-based document management system for quality management as a whole — with full integration of the AZAV manual and course concepts, structured by course and course phase, including a role model and access restrictions.

AI & automation work samples

  • n8n workflow practice

Hands-on n8n experience since 2023 — from RAG systems and chatbots through workflow automations to integrations and document/data processing, including for Google Drive. Production workflows run, wherever it makes sense, in self-hosted, containerised environments.

    n8n Level 1 & Level 2 (n8n).

  • Claude Code, Codex & cross-agent working method

Software development with Claude Code and Codex, following a plan-first approach: from architecture through implementation and refactoring to debugging and code, security, and best-practice review. Roles switch depending on the task — sometimes one system builds and another cross-checks, sometimes the other way round — final release is always a human decision.

Dedicated, version-controlled skills and rules for ki-verordnung-schulung implement this cross-agent principle.

Claude 101 and Claude Code 101 (Anthropic).

  • dipl-ing-sommer.de as a work sample

This website is itself a work sample for AI-assisted development: built following a plan-first approach and implemented with Astro, content collections, and Zod validation. It also includes systematic source and claim checking, responsive and accessibility QA, and human release steps before publication.

  • Agentic assistance in production use

An agentic assistance system has been in daily production use for some time — among other things, to support recurring administrative and organisational tasks and various knowledge and work workflows.

Daily production use, without disclosing infrastructure, access, or private content.

Selected technical and entrepreneurial practice

  • Completed — production build-up 2020

    FFP2 respirator production

In setting up FFP2 respirator production in Germany, I took on central technical tasks: material selection, technical specification, process optimisation, and quality assurance to the requirements of EN 149 for personal protective equipment (PPE).

The work also involved supporting the CE conformity process, as well as import and placing the products on the EU market. The interplay of production build-up, material questions, and regulation made this one of the most demanding and interesting pieces of work in my practice to date.

  • Completed — plant engineering 2006–2020

    Plant engineering, China/UAE

Over several years, Ingenieurbüro Sommer planned and delivered international plant projects in China and the United Arab Emirates: an industrial wastewater treatment plant for PET recycling, a manual PET sorting plant, and aeration equipment for industrial plants in both countries.

  • Completed — procurement practice 2006–2020

    International procurement & manufacturing, China

My practice included technical procurement, organising manufacturing, and importing various metal and plastic components in China — from technical specification through liaising with suppliers and manufacturing to quality requirements and delivery.

  • Historical export practice 2006–2020

    Korea: Authorized Exporter

For exporting environmental technology to Korea, I obtained Authorized Exporter status — allowing my customers to benefit from preferential treatment under the EU–Korea Free Trade Agreement.

To me, this is a good example of how I work: recognise a real customer problem, work my way into an unfamiliar regulatory framework, put the conditions in place, and ultimately deliver a real economic benefit for my customers.

  • Completed 2002–2006

Trade publications & EU/China cooperation projects

During my international work in China, I authored five trade publications on the China environmental market, and contributed to several EU-funded cooperation projects, including Green Ventures Asia, PEPS (Prefabricated Environmental Package Systems, EU Asia Pro Eco), and cooperation within the German-Chinese Environmental Network company pool (AHK Shanghai).
