Two decades of practice. One way of working.

For more than two decades I have worked on technical and entrepreneurial challenges — international projects, a German–Chinese joint venture, my own engineering practice, digital business processes, and demanding regulatory work. Not just designed, but actually built, operated, and taken responsibility for.

Since 2023 I have applied the same way of working to AI-assisted automation and agentic systems — n8n, Claude Code, Codex. For me, that isn't a break, but the technological continuation of a long-standing practice of getting things built and running.

Capabilities

  • AI-assisted process automation & orchestration

Automating real business processes with n8n — from individual integration steps to workflows for RAG systems, chatbots, document processing, and recurring tasks, run in self-hosted, containerised environments wherever that makes sense.

Hands-on n8n experience since 2023 — starting with chatbots and Flowise, now in everyday production use.

    n8n Level 1 & Level 2 (n8n).

  • AI-assisted software development & systematic cross-checking

Software development with AI coding agents such as Claude Code and Codex — embedded in a clear development and review process.

One agent produces or changes a piece of work. A second agent, or a different model, cross-checks it and flags unsupported statements. Rule-based checks complete the process. Which systems take on these roles depends on the task. Final release is always a human decision.

Dedicated, version-controlled skills and rules define this process for the ki-verordnung-schulung project.

  • AI governance, quality & data protection

Binding rules for working with AI tools — with clear release steps and concrete quality requirements.

For the ki-verordnung-schulung project, a dedicated, version-controlled rulebook sets quality requirements and release steps.

For data-sensitive projects, tool and model choice follows the specific requirements at hand; this includes the use of tools such as OpenCode.

  • Agentic assistance systems

Designing and operating agentic assistance systems integrated into existing work and knowledge workflows — from system design through to everyday, productive use.

These systems have been in daily personal use for some time, including to support recurring administrative and organisational tasks.

  • Engineering, entrepreneurial practice & delivery

Broad technical and entrepreneurial practice — from international plant engineering through procurement and export to digital business processes and technical work on setting up FFP2 production.

After graduating, I became Managing Director of a German–Chinese joint venture (Yixing WETECH Environmental Technology), and since 2001 have run my own engineering practice, Ingenieurbüro Sommer — with international plant engineering in China and the UAE, and export practice to Korea as an Authorized Exporter.

Selected projects

  • In development, partially in production use

    ki-verordnung-schulung

A comprehensive AI literacy training programme aligned with Article 4 of the EU AI Act — built in modular form, designed with a clear teaching approach, and backed by defined quality assurance for both human and AI-assisted work steps.

Content is produced from modular Markdown building blocks through a dedicated build and review process.

A dedicated rulebook sets review rules for human and AI-assisted work steps, and the final human release.

  • Completed — engagement ended 05/2025

    Quality management digitalisation, Matrixcode Academy

Design and introduction of a digital course and participant management system, plus a SharePoint-based document management system for quality management as a whole, as part of AZAV accreditation.

Track record

  • Graduated 1998

Dipl.-Ing. (TU), civil engineering and environmental technology, Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH).

  • 1999–2001

Managing Director of Yixing WETECH Environmental Technology Co., Ltd., a German–Chinese joint venture, with personnel responsibility for nine employees.

  • Since 2001

    Owner of Ingenieurbüro Sommer.

  • 2005

UNIDO Blue Sky Award 2005 for a concept for decentralised power generation using a hydro screw.

Awarded to Ingenieurbüro Sommer; I prepared and gave the presentation myself in Shenzhen.
